Workplace Representatives and Union Rights

To protect our workplace representatives and the union’s ability to defend the interests of workers, we strive to negotiate the following: 

  1.       no discrimination for union membership or lawful union activity;
  1.     leave to attend to union business without loss of pay and with minimum notice (say one day);
  1.     leave with seniority/right to return for full-time elected or appointed union staff;
  1.     performance of union duties during working hours deemed time worked;
  1.     workplace representatives to receive information necessary to their duties (identify all types required, be specific);
  1.     union bulletin boards for union purposes;
  1.     right to distribute union literature at the workplace during breaks (both paid and unpaid) outside work areas;
  1.     on site union office space and meeting room;
  1.     paid time for workplace representatives to orient new employees to the union;
  1. no discipline or discharge of any worker who refuses to cross a legal picket line;
  1.   no discipline or discharge of any worker who refuses to handle struck work;
  1.   employer to pay full-time union workplace representatives and the bargaining committee members’ time for negotiations
